Don’t get into a tizzy over your fizzy

A Belfast woman has been awarded £2,000 after a judge ruled that security staff that confiscated her fizzy drink at a concert had discriminated against her.

Kayla Hanna suffers from Type 1 diabetes. Due to the impact this has on her blood sugar levels she carries with her a bottle of Lucozade.  Whilst at a concert in 2016 event security staff prohibited her from taking her drink into the event despite Ms Hanna showing a diabetes tattoo, her insulin and a device for measuring blood sugar levels.

It was found that the organisation in charge of security, Eventsec Ltd, had failed to provide a reasonable adjustment to their policy of not allowing liquids to be brought into a concert.

Discrimination can also occur during the course of your employment. Jackson Boyd’s Employment Team has experience in handling a variety of discrimination claims.
