ACAS survey finds 30% of employers likely to make redundancies over the next year

This month, ACAS published the results of a new survey on redundancies. It found that that 30% of employers are likely to make staff redundant in the next 12 months. The survey found that 41% of large businesses are likely to make redundancies. 20% of small and medium sized (SME) businesses are also likely to do so. These figures are notably higher than the 30% of large employers and 10% of SMEs that said they were likely to make redundancies in 2022. You can read more about the study here.

ACAS have urged employers to explore all possible options before considering redundancies. If an employer finds there are no other alternatives than to make redundancies then there are strict rules on consulting staff that they must follow.

Any employers considering making redundancies should seek legal advice to ensure they follow the correct process. They should be aware of the options available to them, including potentially reaching an agreed exit with employees.

At Jackson Boyd we regularly advise clients on redundancy situations, as well as drafting Settlement Agreements for employers and advising employees on the terms of a Settlement Agreement.
