Almost 40% of women have experienced sexual harassment at work

A recent report commissioned by Slater and Gordon solicitors has found that almost 4 in 10 women have been subjected to sexual harassment in the workplace in the last 12 months.

The recent media reports surrounding movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and the ensuing #MeToo movement have brought this issue to the public’s attention, however it seems that this has not resulted in a decrease in incidents of harassment and indeed around a third of the employees surveyed reported that there were still male colleagues harassing female co-workers.

The survey further reported that only around a fifth of victims of harassment report this to their employers, and it is clear that many women remain reluctant to raise formal complaints or grievances.

The Equality Act 2010 protects employees with a protected characteristic from being harassed, and employees should report any instances of harassment to their employer.
