Holiday Claims: What evidence helps?

At Jackson Boyd, we know your holidays matter to you. Whether it is an idyllic honeymoon, a budget weekend city break or the family holiday of a lifetime memories are often created that will be treasured for a lifetime.

We also know that despite all the planning in the world, that things can still go badly wrong even whilst on holiday. Moreover, when things go wrong whilst abroad the stress and anguish is often significantly amplified.

Where do you turn if you have been involved in a road traffic accident in your hire car? If you’re injured as a result of a poorly maintained hotel? If you suffer salmonella as a result of under cooked chicken at your hotel? If your all inclusive excursion leads to injury?

On your own the prospect of attempting to bring a claim for an accident abroad can be daunting. However, at Jackson Boyd we have the experience and expertise to guide you through this process.

If you are involved in an accident abroad, it is important to remember that as with any claim, evidence is key. Whilst the language is different, names may be unusual and registration numbers strange it is vital that you record or note as much information as possible. If accident reports are completed keep a copy of them; if the police attend take the officers’ names; utilise your camera and photograph/record important details, retain ticket stubs, keep copies of medical records, take the receptionist’s full name. Remember, you may require to prove everything at a later date and compiling evidence in a foreign jurisdiction months or years down the line will be far more difficult than in Scotland.

With the summer holidays approaching we hope you have a well-deserved break and that the only memories made are ones to be treasured. However, if your dream holiday is ruined by injury or illness we are here to help. Click here to contact us online or call 0333 222 1855 to speak to a member of our team.
