Ministry of Justice reports significant increases in Employment Tribunal Claims

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has recently released statistics highlighting a significant increase in Employment Tribunal claims. Over a three month period, April to June 2018, single employment tribunal claims have more than doubled and multiple claims have more than quadrupled when compared to the same period last year.

The MoJ has, however, stated that the rise in multiple claims can be attributed in part to a significant group claim being raised against an airline and as such the spike in claims may be slightly misleading.

That said, over the last 12 months there has been a steady increase in claims and indeed earlier this year the MoJ invited applications for employment judges, hoping to recruit over 50 judges across the UK to address the increase in claims.

Whilst the level of claims raised has not as yet returned to the pre-employment tribunal fees high, they are certainly on an upward trend.
