Job Vacancy – Associate (EL / PL & Medical Negligence Team)

Location: Glasgow City Centre (hybrid office/home working)
Hours: Full time (35 hours), permanent
Salary: Competitive and dependent on experience

The Role

We are currently seeking an Associate to join our EL / PL and Medical Negligence Team in Glasgow.

The successful candidate will work on a varied and engaging caseload of personal injury litigation, comprising a mix of Employer’s Liability, Public Liability and Medical Negligence claims. The role offers exposure to a broad spectrum of work, ranging from EL/PL claims arising from workplace and public‑space accidents, through to medical negligence matters involving detailed investigation, expert evidence and sensitive client issues.

This opportunity would suit an experienced personal injury solicitor who enjoys working across a diverse caseload and is keen to further develop both technically and professionally within a supportive and collaborative team. You will be trusted to manage cases with a good degree of autonomy while working closely with partners on more complex or higher‑value matters.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Manage a mixed caseload of EL / PL and medical negligence claims
  • Deal with EL/PL claims arising from workplace accidents, slips, trips and falls, manual handling accidents, equipment‑related injuries, and public liability claims involving accidents in public places
  • Work on medical negligence claims, including investigation of liability and causation, consideration of medical records and expert evidence, and progression of complex matters
  • Draft legal pleadings, correspondence and court documentation
  • Raise and progress court actions where appropriate
  • Lead and conduct settlement negotiations
  • Work closely with partners and counsel on complex, higher‑value or sensitive claims, including strategic case planning and preparation
  • Provide a high standard of client care, handling matters with professionalism, empathy and attention to detail
  • Keep up to date with developments in personal injury and medical negligence law and firm‑wide services

Skills and Experience Required

  • Qualified solicitor with solid post‑qualification experience in personal injury litigation (Associate level)
  • Experience in EL / PL work, with exposure to medical negligence claims or a strong interest in developing in this area
  • Strong drafting, analytical and case‑management skills
  • Ability to manage cases independently while working collaboratively within a team
  • Excellent communication and client‑handling skills
  • Organised, proactive and commercially aware
  • High level of IT proficiency and confidence using online legal resources
