The Role
We are currently seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to join our highly regarded Employment Team in Glasgow.
The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of predominantly contentious employment law matters, acting for both claimant and respondent clients. The role offers broad and high‑quality exposure to Employment Tribunal litigation, advocacy, settlement negotiations, and advisory work arising from disciplinary and grievance matters.
This opportunity would suit an experienced employment solicitor with a strong technical grounding and the ability to manage matters with a high degree of autonomy. You will be trusted to lead files, build client relationships and contribute to the ongoing development of the Employment Team, while working closely with partners on more complex and strategic matters. Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Manage a diverse caseload of contentious employment law matters with a high degree of autonomy
- Act for both claimant and respondent clients
- Handle Employment Tribunal claims from instruction through to resolution, including drafting pleadings, witness statements and bundles
- Undertake and develop advocacy, including conducting preliminary and substantive Tribunal hearings where appropriate
- Advise clients on employment issues arising from disciplinary, grievance and dismissal processes
- Lead and conduct settlement negotiations, including drafting and negotiating settlement agreements
- Work closely with partners on complex or high‑value matters
- Supervise, mentor and support more junior colleagues as appropriate
- Contribute to the development of the Employment Team, including client relationship management and business‑development activity
- Keep up to date with developments in employment law and firm‑wide services
Skills and Experience Required
- Qualified solicitor with solid post‑qualification experience in employment law (Associate or Senior Associate level)
- Strong technical knowledge with a commercially focused, pragmatic approach
- Proven ability to manage matters independently and deliver a high standard of client service
- Excellent advocacy, communication and client‑handling skills
- Experience of mentoring or supervising junior colleagues (or a willingness to do so)
- Strong organisational, time and file‑management skills
- High level of IT proficiency and confidence using online legal resources
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and colleagues
