Job Vacancy – Solicitor / Newly Qualified Solicitor (Employment)

Primary Location:     Glasgow City Centre – hybrid office/home working

Hours of Work:          Full time (35 hours), Permanent

Salary:                        Competitive and dependant on experience

Description of Role

We are currently seeking a Solicitor to join our highly regarded Employment Team in Glasgow.

The successful candidate will work on a varied caseload of predominantly contentious employment law matters, acting for both claimant and respondent clients. The role offers broad exposure to Employment Tribunal litigation, advocacy, settlement negotiations, and advisory work arising from disciplinary and grievance matters.

This opportunity would suit an ambitious and motivated NQ or junior solicitor (up to 3 years’ PQE) with a solid employment‑law traineeship or early post‑qualification experience. The level of responsibility and autonomy will reflect experience, with appropriate supervision, mentoring and support provided throughout. There is clear scope for career progression within the Employment Team, with opportunities to take on increasing responsibility and develop both technically and commercially as experience grows.

Key Responsibilities

Under supervision appropriate to experience, the successful candidate will:

  • Manage a diverse caseload of contentious employment law matters
  • Act for both claimant and respondent clients
  • Handle Employment Tribunal claims from instruction through to resolution, including drafting pleadings, witness statements and bundles
  • Gain exposure to advocacy, including attendance at preliminary and substantive Tribunal hearings where appropriate
  • Advise clients on employment issues arising from disciplinary, grievance and dismissal processes
  • Assist with and conduct settlement negotiations, including drafting and negotiating settlement agreements
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues on more complex matters
  • Keep up to date with developments in employment law and firm‑wide services

Skills and Experience Required

  • Qualified solicitor (including NQ) with a solid traineeship and/or up to 3 years’ PQE in employment law
  • Strong technical knowledge with a commercially focused, practical approach
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and client‑handling skills
  • Ability to manage own workload while working collaboratively within a team
  • On‑site gym facilities
  • Proactive, self‑motivated and able to use initiative
  • Very good time, file and document management skills
  • Strong research skills, including effective use of online resources
  • High level of IT proficiency
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and potential clients
